There are six travel writing awards offered. The winner of the Cathay Pacific Travel Writer of the Year Award will be selected from one of the category Award winners.
The Cathay Pacific Travel Writer of the Year will receive two return economy class tickets to Johannesburg travelling with Cathay Pacific plus $500 towards travel expenses and, courtesy of Adventure World, a fabulous seven-day land package staying at a private game lodge in the Kruger and Drakensburg region.
The Writing Awards Categories are: | Small Luxury Hotels of the World Award for the Best Magazine Travel Story The winner receives five nights' accommodation which can be used at any one of the 480 properties in Small Luxury Hotels of the World's global collection. Small Luxury Hotels of the World is an exclusive brand of more than 450 independent, luxury hotels offering an infinite variety of memorable experiences in 70 countries.
| Navigate Oceania Award for the Best Newspaper Travel Article The winner receives two nights from Navigate Oceania's
collection of over 30 of New Zealand and the South Pacific's most prestigious luxury lodges & resorts, boutique hotels and spa destinations. | Heritage Hotels Award for the Best Travel Article Written About New Zealand The winner receives seven room nights with breakfast for two to stay at the winner's choice of one of the pre-eminent Heritage Hotel
or CityLife Hotels situated throughout New Zealand. | Interislander Award for the Best Article About a Journey This is not a destination piece, but a story of a journey describing experiences and sights seen while travelling. The winner receives $1,000 plus a return crossing on the Interislander for a car and two passengers (including driver), including entry to the Club Class. | CONDITIONS OF ENTRY - All entries must be written by a New Zealand-based writer, based on their own experiences, and first published in a newspaper or magazine between 1 January 2009 and 31 December 2009.
- Entrants must be current Travcom members. A completed and signed Travcom membership form must accompany entries if entering the Awards and joining Travcom for the first time.
- Entrants may submit work in more than one category, but the same article cannot be entered in more than one category.
- There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted.
- A completed entry form must accompany each story entered. Two copies of the published article clearly showing where the story was published must accompany each entry. Photocopies are acceptable. The full text, writer's name, name of the publication and date of publication must be shown. If necessary, include the masthead and/or contents page.
- Only work published in a travel editorial context can be entered. Promotional or advertising work is not eligible, including articles that have appeared in an ‘advertorial’ context.
- To enter, Entrants must be the legal copyright holder/s or have permission from copyright and license holder/s to enter the material in the Awards.
- Entrants fully indemnify Travcom against any claims arising from the use of the material as described herein or infringement of intellectual property rights.
- No material will be returned.
- Entrants agree that material submitted may be used in whole or in part by Travcom and its sponsors for promotion or acknowledgement of the Awards and/or exhibition with suitable credit to the entrant.
- Non-compliance with the Awards criteria will disqualify entries and no refunds will be given.
- Prizes are not transferable to another person and may not be exchanged for cash.
- Prizes are valid for one year from 31 March 2009. Airport taxes and other third-party costs may apply in some cases. The prize for the Travel Writer of the Year African tour will leave on a range of dates specified by Adventure World.
- Special conditions (clearly stated in sponsors’ Award vouchers) may apply to all but cash prizes e.g. they may be subject to availability or exclude travel during peak periods.
- Deadline for entries is 5pm Friday, 5 February 2010, no entries will be accepted after this date.
| SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES A completed entry form must accompany each story entered. Two copies of each published story must be submitted. Photocopies are acceptable. Travcom will blank out names prior to submission to the judges to ensure anonymity. All entrants must be paid-up Travcom members. | THE JUDGING Entries will be anonymous. Depending on the number of entries, a New Zealand-based judge may be appointed to screen the entries, with the final selections made by an overseas judge. All judging and screening decisions are final. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into and no refunds will be given. | ENTRY FEES Each entry is $10 (includes GST).
